VA - Perú Selvático - Sonic Expedition Into The Peruvian Amazon 1972-1986

Less than a hundred miles inland from the capital city of Lima lies the great Peruvian jungle, an untamed land of impenetrable forests and endless winding rivers. In its isolated cities, cut off from the fashions of the capital, a unique style of music began to develop, inspired equally by the sounds of the surrounding forests, the roll of the mighty Amazon and Ucayali Rivers, and the rhythms of cumbia picked up from distant stations on transistor radios. With the arrival of electricity, a new generation of young musicians started plugging in their guitars and trading in their accordions for synthesizers: Amazonian cumbia was born.

Powered by fast-paced timbale rhythms, driven by spidery, treble-damaged guitar lines, and drenched in bright splashes of organ, Amazonian cumbia was like a hyperactive distant cousin of surf music crossed with an all-night dance party in the heart of the forest. While many of the genre’s greatest tracks were instrumental, and others were simple celebrations of life in the jungle, the goal of every song was to keep the party going.

Radio stations in Lima remained unaware of the new electric sounds emanating from the jungle, but a handful of pioneering record producers ventured over the mountain passes to the cities of Tarapoto, Moyobamba, Pucallpa – even Iquitos, a city reachable only by boat or plane – and lured dozens of bands to the recording studios of the capital to lay down their best tracks. Although many became local hits, few were ever heard outside the Amazonian region... until now.

With eighteen tracks from some of the greatest names in Amazonian cumbia, Perú Selvatico is both the improbable soundtrack to a beach party on a banks of the Amazon and a psychedelic safari into the sylvan mysteries of the Peruvian jungle.

Sonido Verde de Moyobamba - Sonido Verde De Moyobamba

Formed in 1980 by guitar prodigy Leonardo Vela Rodriguez, Sonido Verde de Moyobamba created some of the hardest, craziest Cumbia to emerge from the Peruvian jungle. With distorted, surf-addled guitar facing off against lysergic organ and hyperactive tropical rhythms, Sonido Verde conjured the organic sound of the dense forests surrounding their hometown while riding their dance-party grooves to dizzying psychedelic peaks.

Compiled by Analog Africa, Sonido Verde de Moyobamba presents eight ultra-rare tracks of guitar and organ madness drawn from the band's five albums recorded for Discos Universal between 1981 and 1987. Pressed on Sun Yellow colored vinyl, housed in a screen-printed jacket and strictly limited to 2000 copies, Sonido Verde is a definitive trip into the heart of the jungle.

2. El Limoncito

Benny Reid - Shook Ones, Pt. II + Remixes

Multi-talented jazz composer Benny Reid once again realigns with Fat Beats Records for an EP release of three instrumental jazz renditions of, “Shook Ones Pt. II.” The release finds itself three years removed from Benny’s #1 Billboard charting album, Follow The Leader, a re-imagining of Eric B & Rakim’s classic work. Due to its success and the subsequent collaboration with Rakim, the continued alliance with the indie hip-hop powerhouse was a no-brainer.

The only way to reimagine a classic such as “Shook Ones” is to do so with the utmost care and integrity. Fortunately, Reid found himself immersed in the absolute majesty of the source material, some of which was directly performed by his idols (Herbie Hancock), as well as teachers (Barry Harris). The brilliance of the original record created a dichotomy of sorts. The material is so desirable to replay, but how to do so in order to warrant a rebirth? The answer lay in stretching the boundaries of his acoustic instruments and jazz background. Seven days later, Reid emerged from his solitary examination of Mobb Deep with his breathtaking rendition of “Shook Ones”; a six-minute journey consisting of lush sonic landscapes, imaginative twists and turns, and fantastic grooves, all while transforming Havoc and Prodigy’s original lyrics to the instrumental melody.

Havoc became aware of Reid’s work and an immediate partnership was formed. He authorized Reid to re-record an entire instrumental cover album of Mobb Deep’s The Infamous - the first of its kind - in an entirely live acoustic, sample-free interpolation completely arranged and performed by Reid himself. The result is appropriately titled, Benny Reid Presents: The Infamous LIVE.

With the full-length offering set to drop the top of 2023, Benny is eager for the digital release of, Shook Ones, Pt. II + Remixes, which comes equipped with two non-album remixes; PYRMDS Remix and an Extended Jazz Remix. The digital release will be paired with a limited 7-inch pressing that includes all three tracks, both of which are set to drop December 16th, with pre-orders set for November 18th via
Fat Beats Records.

Tracklist:
1. Shook Ones, Pt. II
2. Shook Ones, Pt. II (PYRMDS Remix)
3. Shook Ones, Pt. II (Exclusive Jazz Remix)

Two icons of modern music, José James and Moby, combine for ‘ache for,’ the latest Always Centered at Night (ACAN) release. This gorgeous stripped-back orchestral affair has a deeper lyrical meaning, one that James calls a “powerful meditation on loss, change and evolution."

Vooo - Same Old

Radio Juicy proudly presents "Same Old" the third solo album by Vooo. The album encompasses the music that Vooo has been writing and recording over the course of 2022. As it was highly anticipated by his fans, it comes as a nice surprise before the holidays. The album is an incredible collection of awe inspiring music that explores multiple genres and concepts. With such tracks as Heartstrings, Character 1 and Wax that are instant classics this album is definitely a contender to album of the year. And it's only the beginning as in 2023 "Same Old" will come out on vinyl with a whooping 3 tracks bonus featuring some amazing artists. The vinyl version will only be available in March 2023 but it's already possible to pre-order it now. So if you love the artist and project feel free to show some support!

Vooo's words about "Same Old",
My intention with this record was to refine a collection of the tracks most highly anticipated and requested by fans of my video content where I show the process of recording new songs. I selected each track not only on the basis of its connection with my audience, but also with the goal of curating a record full of emotive instrumental performances, positive moods and pure ear-candy. Many of these tracks were initially written as short-form “beat-video” content, and to transform the demos into full songs, I spent countless hours re-arranging, re-recording, and carefully mixing in a larger studio using high-quality vintage instruments and analog processing methods, particularly 8-track tape. The result is what I consider to be my most elaborate and well-crafted project which has been enhanced by the brilliant talents of the several featured instrumentalists and engineers involved.

Vooo is a multi-instrumentalist & producer originally from Los Angeles, currently based in Oakland. With a degree in music theory and a background in jazz, he has used his experience to dip into a number of genres, mostly in the world of hip-hop, R&B, and neo-soul. In addition to releasing two solo albums since 2020, he has executive produced a few full-length records for other artists and created sample packs to raise thousands in mutual aid for the Oakland community. Vooo’s music has been featured on NPR’s New Music Friday, Bandcamp’s Best Soul of 2021 and several Spotify editorial playlists.

Madlib and Mark Ronson - The Album

Recycled Records is a sonic exploration of recycled sound that illustrates the benefits of clear plastic through the universal language of music. More often than not, green plastic is recycled into single-use items; in switching Sprite, Fresca and Seagram’s, bottles from green to clear plastic The Coca-Cola Company is helping to create a closed loop “bottle-to-bottle” economy in which products can be recycled more than once in the creation of “new” bottles. In simple terms, any Sprite bottle can now become a bottle for Fanta, DASANI, etc. In this way, the benefits of clear plastic are similar to the now ubiquitous musical production technique of sound sampling in which old songs, sounds, and ambient noise are repeatedly flipped into new music.

The initiative begins with the world’s first album created from the recycled sounds of the plastic recycling process, created in partnership with iconic, genre-defining/defying producers Mark Ronson and Madlib, using real ambient sounds sourced from various points in the closed-loop recycling chain.

We then invite you to create your own original beats on this site using these same recycled sound samples. Welcome to an aural examination of repeated re-use, and a tune-based testament to the power of creativity today in building a better tomorrow.

Itoa - Oh No

After two stunning releases on Exit Records in 2018 and 2020, 2022 marks Itoa’s third offering to dBridge’s esteemed catalogue.

With his ‘Oh No’ EP, the London artist follows hypnotic loops into a treasure trove of 160 and bass bangers that are sure to keep their cool even as they set dancefloors on fire.

From the slouchy, wall-melting fuzz of ‘We Want’, to the breakneck claustrophobia of Girlboss Microplastix, the release keeps the body at its core: in Itoa’s words, “trying to make music that makes me want to move when surrounded by uncertainty and possible collapse.” Fierce, but subtle: funky, and still ice cold.

For the title track, Itoa incorporates spicy vocal grit from Japanese vocalist Nakamura Minami / なかむらみなみ, a rapper with affiliations to iconic Tokyo-based imprint Trekkie Trax. ‘Oh No’ takes jacking acid to new levels, unleashing an infectious 303 workout not just for the feet, but the shoulders too. Go ahead and whip your hair to this one—then take a sweat break before ‘Fonda U’ continues to tear up the tracklist with crisp wubs and a drumbeat that just won’t quit.

On the flip, ‘Girlboss Microplastix’ and ‘Catch Eyes’ hit a perfect combo of neurofunk hypnosis and raise-yer-gunfingaz fuel. Who said a 303 couldn’t tag team a reese bass… Jump-up, footwork, bassline and braindance all make their cameos here and the results are delicious—fine dining for the UK heads.

Tracklist:
1. Wet Brain
2. We Want
3. Oh No (extended mix)
4. Fonda U
5. Catch Eyes
6. Girlboss Microplastix
7. Oh No (instrumental)
8. Oh No

Cy Gorman - Hiwave

Melbourne multi-media-genre-instrumentalist Cy Gorman invites you to see the world through rose-tinted glasses, much like the ones he wore (seen on the cover art) throughout the making of his new album 'Hiwave'. Savouring every last drop of his creative process, Cy (pronounced as in cy-borg) lays down a lush psychedelic picnic of keys, saxophone, vocals, delectable beats, sound design and skillful songwriting for a shapeshifting and mindbending sonic ride.

Like a true cyborg, Cy seeks the perfect integration of human and machine, combining his jazz school training with flowing electronic soundscapes inspired by exploratory grooves from labels like Brainfeeder, Compost, Warp, Jazzanova and Ninja Tune.

The songs on 'Hiwave' are all stand-alone genre-gems, with nods to R&B, chillwave, footwork, AOR and 20+ years of hip hop. A common thread through the album is Cy's concentrated process of play: nature, air, wonder, flow, altered states, slow motion, connecting with family and friends, embracing 'mistakes' and honouring the masters from Stevie Wonder, Brian Eno and Prince to The Neptunes, as well as the pioneering production vibes of Thundercat, Mndsgn, Iman Omari and beyond!

Support for Cy has included BBC, KCRW, Spotify Fresh Finds, Apple Music, Triple J, Hotel Costes, Worldwide FM, InterFM Tokyo and (the mighty!) Bandcamp Weekly.

Tracklist:
1. Hiwave
2. Hummingbird Heart
3. Dewy Drip
4. Give Way
5. Clockwork (feat. Christin Deralas)
6. In Love With (feat. Ria Soemardjo)

Leland Whitty - Anyhow

Some of the greatest artists in the 20th century have been multi-instrumentalists – cue Prince, Stevie Wonder, Curtis Mayfield, Todd Rundgren and Paul McCartney. That expansive understanding of composition, technique and sound changes how artists approach musicians has inspired Leland Whitty’s approach on his new record Anyhow.

Leland Whitty has been part of Toronto-based band BADBADNOTGOOD for seven years. He joined BBNG in 2015, but had met the group in 2010 while they were all studying in the Humber College jazz program. When the band decided to rework their line up after their third album, Alexander Sowinski (drums), Chester Hansen (bass) and Matthew Tavares (Keyboards) approached Whitty to complete the quartet on saxophone and guitar. Whitty has also worked with artists including Charlotte Day Wilson, Kali Uchis, Kendrick Lamar, Ghostface Killah, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Earl Sweatshirt, and Kaytranada.

Whitty’s current solo project is a departure from the improvisation focused collaborative band that has made his name. Anyhow began in 2020 after Whitty had finished working on several film score projects including Disappearance at Clifton Hill (Albert Shin) and Learn to Swim (Thyrone Tommy). That focus on narrative fed into his own work, which combined elements of cinematic composition with jazz and rock like he has created in the past. His latest album Anyhow features Whitty on guitar, synthesizer, woodwinds, production, composition and strings. Narrative is built into each of Whitty’s tracks in some way. Rather than a specific story, he drew from photographic or cinematic sources. The aim was for the production and arrangement to imply the kind of structural narrative found in jazz improvisation. Whitty’s compositions emerged from voice notes and short loops, for example guitar riffs that he would feed into Ableton and flesh out into larger arrangements.

BADBADNOTGOOD’s Alex and Chester were also guests on the album, alongside other friends and notably Whitty’s older brother, Lowell – which Leland credits as being a central musical inspiration in his life. This is the first time they had the chance to fully work together. Whitty built the album from small excerpts rather than have a more rigid intellectual compositional technique. He would envision the whole scope of a song, asking friends to contribute to shift each tracks’ rhythm and energy. Whitty’s role was both performer, composer and in some way a director, asking contributors to execute in an organic way and editing the results. Whitty’s influences include numerous jazz musicians, from Wayne Shorter to John Coltrane.

However, the inspirations for Anyhow were library records and arrangers like David Axelrod, Gary McFarland, Arthur Verocai and Brian Bennett. Contemporary composers - notably Jon Brion and Jonny Greenwood – were also strong stimuli for the scope of sound that feels personal and cinematic at the same time. The layered result is very much a studio-based experience, creating a very particular sense of intimacy as a result.

The track titles also have a focus on intimacy and emotion – Svalbard referencing ideas of physical isolation, for example. The album title, Anyhow, references Whitty’s do-it-yourself approach to composition, production and multi-instrument performance. The album is a look inward, expressing something personal – a reflection of the experience of music itself.

1. Svalbard
2. Glass Moon

Biggabush - A Different Style

“One of UK rave’s most prominent exponents of dubwise experimentation” Bandcamp Daily
“Breathtakingly eclectic” – XLR8R

For much of the 2021 lockdown(s), veteran dub midi-maestro Glyn “Bigga” Bush was locked in the studio revisiting an album originally released in 2004 on German imprint Stereo Deluxe, ‘Biggabush Free’. The outcome from this marathon session was a newly revised album titled ‘Biggabush Freevisited’, a record has been praised by the likes of The Wire Magazine, Kid Hops (KEXP), 239EF (NTS), Jamie Rodigan (whynowworld) and many more.

“A Different Style EP” is the remix EP follow up to ‘Biggabush Freevisited’. Highlighting a variety of bass-heavy styles, the release features reworkings from Sentinel 793, Robot Riddims, James Hayford and Gerry Hectic, ranging from 8-bit electronic dub to deep house disco and bruk.

“The thing I love about a good remix is that it references the original track but adds the remixers stamp and style in a respectful way that enhances the song and takes it off in new directions that I would never have thought of” Biggabush

Opening the EP with the first of two reworkings of “The River feat. Jackie Walters”, Sentinel 793 adds his trademark off kilter beats with beautiful chord progressions to the ethereal vocals of Jackie Walters. In contrast, the Gerry Hectic Extension of the track is an edit of the album version, weaving the instrumental to create a 14 minute epic take. Elsewhere on the release, Robot Riddims meld electronic drama with quirky console sounds on “Black Swan Revival feat. Farda P & Jackie Walters”, keeping Farda P as the central MC, and James Hayford builds on the ambient style of “Sole Sister” adding beats and breaks. Biggabush also takes the opportunity to put his own different slant on Real & Regal feat. Farda P”: “With the Bigga’s Rising Dub version, I went back to the track and made the whole thing spacier and darker. I’m a massive fan of Rhythm & Sound’s minimal dub/techno and wanted to bring this deep form of repetition and slowly unfolding sounds into the mix”.

Featuring vocalist Jackie Walters, MC Farda P, turntablist Jay Rees and The Blackjack Horns, ‘Biggabush Freevisited’ is a more cohesive version of its precursor, which began with a desire to break out of Glyn’s usual routines, habits and ways of writing music: the title is a play on the idea of alcohol-free, or sugar-free: “I took my old self out of the process and came back with something new” Glyn elaborates. As with any Biggabush project, the album covers an array of genres, from dub, instrumental hip-hop, ambient dub, electro, deep house, prog flavours and everything in between.

Tracklist:
1. This River (feat. Jackie Walters) (Sentinel 793 Remix)
2. Black Swan Revival (feat. Farda P & Jackie Walters) (Robot Riddims Hurting a Different Style Remix)

Mu Quintet - Summit

Jazz boss promoter Lubi Jovanovic finishes off a busy year of live gigs (50+ shows) with a final "Jazzland Sessions" seated jazz club show featuring two bands in the Leeds scene pushing the boundaries of the jazz music genre. Mu Quintet are avant-jazz heavy hitters featuring musicians who play with the Ancient Infinity Orchestra, Matthew Halsall ensemble and Live Evil. Tonight, they launch their debut album "Summit" at this show. Support comes from the young cosmic/spiritual jazz combo Amon Ra Collective who are beginning to make a name for themselves within the city's jazz scene.

Mu Quintet are a Leeds-based instrumental jazz outfit drawing inspiration from movements within the musical avant-garde. With a sound characterised by rich compositions, explosive improvisation and intricate melodies, they aim to push at the boundaries of the small ensemble. Mu Quintet comprises members of Ancient Infinity Orchestra, Matthew Halsall ensemble, Kinaara and Yard Nule.

The group aims to celebrate the act of improvisation and free expression in the modern era. Direct influences include; Ornette Coleman, Art Ensemble Of Chicago, Pharoah Sanders, Eric Dolphy. The compositions and playing style aim to present an alternative expression of the brilliance of jazz music, to the mainstream trends in modern jazz.

Giovanni Benvenuti - An Hour of Existence

Giovanni Benvenuti is an Italian saxophone player and composer. An hour of existence is the second album from Giovanni Benvenuti and this band, following the critically acclaimed album Paolina and the Android. Melodies are the most important element of Benvenuti´s compositions, making the sometimes complex music very accessible to the listener.

The album is inspired by history and science fiction, past and future, two apparently opposite narratives that gives us a better understanding of our present time. We are fascinated by the extraordinary characters that we read of in history and science fiction books, like if they were more than just human beings. Each song of the album is inspired by an episode of the life of these extraordinary people that make them appear closer to us and, in some way, just normal men and women.

1. Servant of the Two Worlds
2. General Krottendorf
3. Her Younger Mother
4. Just Few Words

Kadhja Bonet - California Holiday

LA-based singer and multi-instrumentalist Kadhja Bonet announces ‘California Holiday’ - a holiday themed EP in which, across 6 Charlie Brown inspired tracks, we see the talented artist channel her newfound appreciation of the festive season in what she describes as a ‘modern take on the typical magical Christmas story’. Released on the 2nd December on Ninja Tune, Kadhja today shares lead single “Little Christmas Tree”.

Speaking more on the release Kadhja says -
‘I have never been a holiday person. As a kid I spent holidays hiding under beds and in the back of closets. But as an adult, I somehow picked a partner who is a true holiday lover. Opposites attract, or so I hear. I started making a playlist of all my favourite holiday songs and deep cuts to at least feel like I had some control over the celebration, and then I felt it was a shame to not appreciate good songs just because I can't get behind the commercialism of Christmas. I am Charlie Brown and he is me’.

Throughout the 5 soulful renditions we see Kadhja challenge and explore holiday standards as she ponders her own personal entry into the holiday canon, title track 'California Holiday', and how it 'draws on personal feelings beyond the holiday itself'.

‘I won't be asking Mariah Carey to step aside anytime soon, but it's nice to make holidays relevant to your own story. California Holiday is my attempt at just that. It's a song that I wanted to write because it makes no mention of Christmas, or any one holiday. Instead it focuses on a relationship and how the markers of the year can change your perspective on one, whether by revealing stagnation or jumpstarting a change in the quality of care. I also wanted to make this song because as much as it is about personal relationships, it also signifies my relationship with California, which is a place I've tried to leave many times, but I just keep coming back to. California has that kind of a hold on people. For all its beauty and opportunities, the cost of living and lack of social services make it nearly impossible to survive. I think a lot of people will relate to that angle of the song, this vision of California as a golden state and the hypothetical opportunities they are scared to leave’.

Tracklist:
1. California Holiday
2. Little Christmas Tree
3. Someday at Christmas
4. Wonderful Christmas Time
5. It's Christmas Time
6. Keep Christmas With You

Matthew Halsall - Changing Earth

Matthew Halsall shares the 'Changing Earth' EP – another exquisite and spiritual four track offering.

The title track Changing Earth is a soulful, elevating groover featuring sublime work from the whole band but especially, Matt Cliffe on flute and Maddie Herbert on harp. Positive Activity is one of Halsall’s most charming compositions, built round a hypnotic bassline from Gavin Barras it’s melody is plaintive but also uplifting and hopeful and harpist Herbert again shines brightly here. Yogic Flying is another soulful, uplifting tune as Halsall and percussionist Jack McCarthy take us on a transcendental journey upwards. Finally our journey inwards and upwards takes us to Upper Space, a quintessentially Halsall tune built around glistening harp and a sublime, soulful sanctuary elevated through beautiful work from the whole band but especially saxophonist Matt Cliffe.

Tracklist:
1. Positive Activity
2. Changing Earth
3. Yogic Flying
4. Upper Space

Sandman Project - Hamsa (Remixes)

Batov Records revisit Sandman Project’s “Hamsa”, a standout and indeed addictively catchy track in their catalog that fused Ethiopian jazz with West African psychedelic rock, with four brand new remixes destined to battle for attention in DJs’ crates from a global array of Batov’s friends and family.

UK producer, drummer, and DJ, Emanative aka Nick Woodmansey, the artist behind critically acclaimed albums for the likes of Brownswood and Jazzman Records, transforms the original into hard grooving jazz jam, recording (and playing) the drums himself and inviting long-time collaborator and queen of keys, Jessica Lauren, to add her magic touch to proceedings and lay down a majestic Farfisa solo. Vince Vella provides the finishing touch, with an Afro-Latin kick, on congas, udu drums, and other percussion instruments.

Japanese producer and DJ, Koichi Sakai, long-based in London, where he participated heavily in the city’s strong Afrobeat and dub & reggae scenes, whilst studying and producing his own incredible electronic material, collaborating with the likes of celebrated Ghanaian percussionist and band leader Afla Sackey on Olindo Records. With great subtlety, Sakai transforms “Hamsa” into a mid-tempo house groove with lush synth chords.

Rounding off the package, Woxow, Italian DJ, producer, and boss of 45s label, Little Beat More, deftly transforms “Hamsa” into a dub meets boom bap odyssey perfect for losing yourself in for hours on a loop, whilst fellow Batov label mate Ayala gently recalibrates the track for maximum dancefloor effectiveness. With a touch of extra bass here and there and a steady rhythm that will tease and entice the most discerning of dancefloors.

With these four remixes, Batov Records give “Hamsa” the second lease of life it deserves and highlights the creative potential of Sandman Project, whetting the appetite for new songs. Moreover, the assembled remixes highlight a wide variety of talented producers with a keen ear for merging seemingly disparate sounds and are a credit to Batov Records’ curatorial instincts.

1. Hamsa (Koichi Sakai Remix)
2. Hamsa (Woxow Remix)
3. Hamsa (Emanative Rework)
4. Hamsa (Ayala's Rhythm Mix)

VA - Tru Thoughts 2022

‘Tru Thoughts 2022’ is the latest instalment from our annual compilation series. Curated by A&R, DJ and co-founder Robert Luis, the 32-track digital comp celebrates the best of the wide-ranging, diverse, and international roster. Selections span from Neo-Soul, Alternative Pop, Jazz and Contemporary Classical to Grime, Broken Beat, DnB and Electronica.

“When compiling our end of year release, it always gives me a chance to look back over the year we’ve had at Tru Thoughts and the artists we’ve worked with. We are an eclectic label, which reflects my own personal taste in music. In an era with a vast amount of music available, I always feel these compilations are a good way to remind people of the quality releases from the last 12 months. In a world after lockdown and with the UK music industry still dealing with the negative consequences of Brexit, this compilation highlights the creative strength and power of the artists on the Tru Thoughts roster; and, I feel, the wider world of artists and labels too” Robert Luis

We also have a Tru Thoughts 2022 T-shirt available alongside the compilation, check it out via Everpress everpress.com/tru-thoughts-compilation-2022 T-shirts can be ordered up until the 5th Dec, with shipping in time for Christmas.

Highlighted as the compilation’s focus track, ‘Tru Thoughts 2022’ features “The Sky Sings feat. Layla Moallem, Jasmin Moallem & KerenDun (Obas Nenor’s Dub) (Radio Edit)”; an exclusive edit of the hugely celebrated dub taken from Sefi Zisling’s “Welcome Sunset” EP. Renowned for creating music using a unique blend of rare vintage instruments and sounds, Tel Aviv producer and DJ Obas Nenor condenses the hypnotic groove of his original 11-minute remix into an impeccable radio edit. As Robert Luis adds, “it has been going down well in many DJ sets (including my own), but on this compilation we have a nice edit of the remix to highlight the vibe of the song”.

‘Tru Thoughts 2022’ boasts an incredible selection of burgeoning talent who have signed to Tru Thoughts this year. The debut single from Bristol-based producer, multi-instrumentalist, artist, and songwriter Slowe sits alongside the surreal and experimental sounds of Sharky’s smutty love song “Shark”, taken from her album ‘People Are Strange’. Glasgow-based musician, producer, DJ and curator Rebecca Vasmant works with Nadya Albertsson on “Broken Biscuits” taken from her “Dance Yourself Free” EP. Renowned songstress Karolina collaborates with Jenny Penkin on “Ready For Juju” (taken from ‘All Rivers’) and London-based Irish producer Cian McCaan AKA Zero T introduces his new alias - Bruk Rogers – on “LDN 133” and revisits his Zero T DnB sound on his remix of Nottingham Soul duo MELONYX’s “Energy”.

Amongst these debut releases and new signings sit offerings from established members of the Tru Thoughts roster. LA-based trio Moonchild present “Tell Him feat. Lalah Hathaway”, as previously featured on the BBC 6Music playlist, taken from ‘Starfruit’. Released at the beginning of 2022, the LP received international praise from the likes of Pitchfork, Exclaim!, NME, NPR, Billboard and more. Duos Nikitch & Kuna Maze and Rabii Harnoune & V.B.Kühl showcase their respective Bruk-Jazz and Moroccan Gnawa-Electronic fusion sounds on their sophomore albums, while Hidden Orchestra revisit ‘Archipelago’ on its tenth anniversary with the special ‘Archipelago: Source Materials’.

The collaborative spirit of Tru Thoughts continues to bubble through ‘Tru Thoughts 2022’. Producer, multi-instrumentalist, arranger, and composer Sly5thAve celebrates the spirit of Mexico City with pianist and producer Roberto Verástegui on “Agua de Jamaica” and the intersection of Jazz and Hip Hop with MC JSWISS on “Somebody’s Gotta Do It”. West London’s producer, DJ and Broken Beat revivalist WheelUP teams up More Time Records co-founder Sam Interface on collaborative riddim “Copacetic”; Future Soul and Electronica duo Anushka offer up “4AM” - an iconic project with Kraftwerk’s legendary Wolfgang Flür; and Brighton-based Jazz quintet Ebi Soda work with Yazz Ahmed on “Chandler”.

Remixes are plentiful with Gilles Peterson and Jean-Paul “Bluey” Maunick AKA STR4TA bringing their iconic Brit-funk style to Anushka’s “Bad Weather”, while the prolific and widely praised Shy One homes in on Aurora Dee Raynes’ “Good For You”. Broken Beat touches come from Bugz in the Attic member Daz-I-Kue delivering an anthemic remix of WheelUP’s “Fusion” and producer and multi-instrumentalist Hemai putting his own signature blend of live instrumentation and Bruk-heavy flavour on label-mate Sly5thAve’s “C-Side feat. Denitia”. Demonstrating the eclecticism of the label, further remixes come from Hinako Omori (Anchorsong) and Renegates of Jazz (sUb_modU).

Ideism - Object, Subject

Radio Juicy presents “object, subject”, the new album by Ideism. Painting an absolutely breathtaking picture for the album this fresh body of music is like a wonderful trip into the creative mind of the artist. For this project he wanted to work with two main styles, Jazz and electronic beats while finding a middle ground in between the two worlds. Meant to be taken like an “emergence”, crossing from one side to the other, and sort of hanging there in observation. Like coming above the surface of water but without fully emerging. “object, subject” is meant to be interpreted in different ways, intentionally vague, leaving room for personal interpretation. The album is simply incredible and we recommend listening to it in one go, truly immersing yourself into the music.

Tracklist:
