Bokoya & FloFilz - Yurika

Acclaimed Jazz Beat producer FloFilz teams up with experimental Hip-Hop/Jazz quartet Bokoya for collabo album ‘Yurika’ on Melting Pot Music.

What happens when a four-headed human drum computer meets a classically trained violinist turned beatmaker to spend time in the studio? A beautiful lily blossom. At least this was the case when Bokoya and FloFilz entered Atelier 21 in Aachen (a Produzentengalerie für globale Kunst) for a musical encounter with no goals set. The music that was born out of these sessions is simply amazing and we are more than happy to release them as an album under the name ‘Yurika’ - Japanese for „beautiful lily“.

‘Yurika’ will be available digital and on LP with artwork by Jens Roth & Jeremias Diekmann. The 19-track strong instrumental album includes one vocal track featuring Japanese singer Kano San. Prior to the album drop in December, we will release five digital singles.

FloFilz is one of Europe's most acclaimed Jazz Beat producers with four albums on MPM under his belt (and close to 300 million streams). His last album ‘Close Distance’ came out in 2022 and featured artists Alfa Mist, Blue Lab Beats, Jerome Thomas, and Summers Sons. FloFilz is a classically trained musician who not only plays the TR 404 but also violin.

Bokoya describe themselves as a four-headed human drum machine that play improvised beat music. You can call it jazz if you like (all four members are graduated jazz musicians) but be ready to stumble over some Dilla, Kraut Rock, Ambient or Dub in the mix. In 2022 Bokoya released their second album ‘Hausensession’ on MPM, followed by a collabo album with Cologne-based producer Gianni Brezzo (Jakarta Records) called ‘Minari’.

LESKY - Mink Coats & Ladas

German-born, Tbilisi-based producer LESKY returns with new EP “Mink Coats & Ladas”. Packing his renowned recipe of crisp drums and spacey synths, LESKY once again creates a unique soundscape of laid-back beats and refined melodies, that is rich in engaging detail. With a little help from some friends – namely German producers The Breed and MAS as well as British guitarist Waywell – LESKY sonically solidifies the Tbilisi lifestyle into a 7-track-EP. The artwork comes from Parisian illustrator MC Blue Matter.

LESKY was born in Leipzig and after a short intermezzo in Cologne moved to Georgia in beginning of 2021 to pursue music full-time. Since 2019, he has dropped several EPs and two full-length albums (both released on LP) on Melting Pot Music and has worked with well-known labels like Blue Note Records/Astralwerks and Lofi Girl.

His music is a canvas of diverse influences, seamlessly blending the sophisticated harmonies and textures of the Soulquarians's Neo Soul movement, the deep grooves of Hip Hop, and the multifaceted futuristic visions of electronic music. With a discerning ear for details and a strong, high speed work ethic, LESKY creates tracks that feel rooted in the moment of their creation yet thought-through.

LESKY's tracks have garnered widespread acclaim, cementing his status as one of the most promising producers of his genre and securing his place as a regular in the biggest editorial playlists of the Lofi phenomenon.

Doctor Bionic - Sacrifice

Errare Humanum Est comes from the Latin proverb “To err is human” as a musician and a human-being, you are constantly facing “mistakes” on your compositional work and your instrumental interpretation, Felipe Gordon presents his second conceptual album under this premise, you should accept and make mistakes as a crucial part of art and life.

During late 2022 and beginning of 2023, the musician and producer worked on a new long play in his home studio “El Dorado” in Bogotá, Colombia.

‘Insomnia’ is the third solo album by Italian jazz beat maestro Koralle for Melting Pot Music. Without exaggeration, it can be described as the most mature and advanced piece of work by the beatmaker and producer from Bologna. elmo, Nico Harris - Liquid Fusion

Elmo and Nico Harris present their first album “Liquid Fusion” which can be described as a ride through space, where we discover different planets in an electronic-jazz universe. Visiting planets of different flavors like jazz fusion, R&B, 80s disco, you name it. The ride starts with an orchestral composition: "Liquid Fusion", then further dives into the fun and high-energy jazz fusion tracks like “Mirage”, “Nylon”, “Savannah” and “Where to Go”. Including a taste of side B with “Nocturn Lights” and the dance track “Freeze”, the mood begins to change to a deeper blend of emotions. Fredfades & Sraw - Double Density

SP-1200 beats made using postal service. Fredfades and Sraw collaborate through post, exchanging dusty beats for an experimental Hip Hop record. The process of sending floppy discs back and forth, where each producer added element over element on their own SP-1200, has been on-going for almost 10 years, slowly building a collaborative body of work.

The result is Double Density, an LP that oozes with the character of that infamous instrument which laid much of the foundation for the earliest Hip Hop artists and still manages to evoke those raw and visceral sounds of that era. Reinforcing those sounds are the voices of Planet Asia, Pink Siifu and Blue November, who deliver lyrics from US coasts to Scandanavia’s fjords.

The duos collaborative effort swims in a sea of eclectic influences where Jazz, Soul and Hip-Hop thrive in the construct of this unique instrument. The drum machine pops, crackles and hisses on a bed of big bass lines through 13 tracks that go from short instrumentals to fully arranged songs.

Taking Hip-Hop back to its origins, everything is stripped bare to its essentials and for every vocal track, there’s its antithesis in the form of an instrumental break. It’s a record that plays with the archetypes of Hip Hop and Rap as something that we’ve lost over the years that begs for revocation. Double Density sounds exotic in the world of today’s gleaming beats.

Benny Reid - The Infamous Live

Reimagining Mobb Deep's iconic 1995 opus ‘The Infamous’, NYC-based saxophonist and composer Benny Reid's ambitious new project is a collection of acoustic, sample-free renditions, built from the ground up, performed entirely by the multi-instrumentalist auteur.

The forthcoming ‘The Infamous Live’ comes on the heels of Reid’s Billboard-charting take of Eric B & Rakim’s ‘Follow The Leader’. From this, Mobb Deep's Havoc discovered his work and authorized him to reconstruct the timeless Mobb Deep album, giving Reid input and working with him in the studio to complete the project. His limited 7" of "Shook Ones Pt. II" previewing the project, sold out quickly upon release in December 2022.

Reid is a forward-thinking jazz musician with a bent toward mixing expansive post-bop improvisation with atmospheric contemporary jazz styles. He released his first two albums on the prestigious Concord label and has been working with Fat Beats to create interesting, progressive tributes to the hip-hop albums that defined his youth.

DJ Muggs - Notes & Tones

Following the launch of their Holy Ghost wine and record pairing, DJ Muggs and Egon have teamed up with California’s Broc Cellars and its winemaker Chris Brockway for Notes & Tones: Deep natural wine meets deep jazz and rap samples on vinyl.

Natural wine can be the same, obscure type of thing as a natural hot dog. Natural in what way? As in it, in some way, originally came from nature? In this case, we mean an unadulterated wine made without chemical pesticides or fertilizers used in grape cultivation; a wine made without unnecessary intervention by the vintner without fining and filtering; and with little or no sulfites added to extend the wine’s shelf life.

In this case, this wine is a “living” – sensitive, evolving – thing. If you follow the biodynamic calendar, you might find it tastes different if you drink it on a “root” day or a “fruit” day. And you will probably find that it is not sanitized like the commercially produced, neutered and shelf-stabilized wine that is what 90% of wine consumers tend to drink. In other words, Notes & Tones is probably unlike most wines you have ever had.

This is a good thing. This is purposeful. Chris Brockway of Broc Cellars worked with Muggs and Egon to conceive, ferment, taste, blend and then bottle this homage to the skin-contact wines of yore brought into the modern day – those by the likes of Stanko Radikon in Italy and Xavier Caillard in France.

The only name that fit it was that of the landmark book by the great jazz drummer Art Taylor. Muggs complimented the wine with music that he and Egon sourced and cleared from the landmark catalog of the cosmic jazz musician Sun Ra. A Soul Assassins x Now-Again x Broc Cellars collaboration.
