Red Hot + Ra: The Magic City is a profound
musical journey curated by Grammy Award-winning
bassist-composer-producer Meshell Ndegeocello. Recorded with a diverse
ensemble, including the legendary 99-year-old saxophonist Marshall Allen
and hip-hop/punk-jazz vocalist Pink Siifu, this album transcends
traditional covers, offering entirely new compositions inspired by Sun
Ra’s philosophy. With a multi-generational cast of community musicians,
the project recontextualizes Sun Ra’s work, avoiding clichés and
presenting a brighter perspective than its predecessor, 2023’s Red Hot +
Ra: Nuclear War.
Immerse yourself in the dreamlike and soulful
interpretation of Sun Ra’s composition as The Magic City marks the third
installment in the Red Hot & Ra series. With it’s upcoming album
release on April 5th, 2024, and vinyl release on April 12th, 2024, this
album is a testament to Ndegeocello’s visionary approach. Meshell
Ndegeocello, an iconic singer-songwriter and artist, brings forth a
present-time experience that honors Sun Ra’s legacy while navigating the
complexities of our society.
Join the celebration of Sun Ra’s
music with Red Hot + Ra: Magic City, a transformative musical experience
that invites listeners to design their own path in the cosmic realm of
sound.
