VA - Mr. Magic's Be-Bop Convention

In 2026, Now-Again Records released Mr. Magics Be-Bop Convention, a ten-track collection featuring vocal and instrumental versions of Anthony Pearson’s compositions. The project featured The Chillie 3 MCs, The L.O.D. Crew, Willie Brown, Woodie, and Pookey Blow. Pearson, a DJ and record-store owner from Connecticut, was one of the pioneers of the local hip-hop scene: his debut record came out in 1979. He later established himself as a producer in Bridgeport. Experts consider Mr. Magics Be-Bop Convention the pinnacle of his career and note that the original limited pressing consisted of around 1,000 copies. The album stands out for its use of live bands, extended takes, and unconventional musical touches—for example, kazoo solos and ventriloquist routines.
